 BIOGRAPHY

Pina Antonelli, pianist, has received world recognition, having performed in Lincoln Center (NYC), Kennedy Center (Washington D C), the War Memorial Opera House (San Francisco), the San Jose (California) Performing Arts Center and in numerous other major concert halls both here and abroad.

She has held recitals aboard the Cunard Liner QE II on several voyages and been a guest of Royalty around the world.

Her extensive chamber music experience includes performances at Spoleto, Stresa, Turin and in New York under the direction of noted conductor Dr. James Wagner Chapman. She has worked in conjunction with many illustrious artists in the United States and in Europe. Ms.Antonelli has premiered works of David Amram, Nicolas Flagello, Vittorio Giannini, Ned Rorem and other celebrated composers. Scholarships and awards assisted her studies at the Eastman School of Music, the Manhattan School and the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.

While on a Fulbnght Grant in Europe, she was welcomed into the master classes of several eminent pianists including and especially Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli of Italy. Ms. Antonelli was awarded the Artist Diploma - a coveted and rarely given prize - for her work at the Naples Conservatory. At the young age of 19, a winner of the International Bach Competition, she played both books of the Well -Tempered Clavichord from memory - a feat recognized by the esteemed jury.

In 1989, Ms. Antonelli, Emmanual Ax and Abbey Simon were invited by the International Chopin Foundation to play special recitals benefiting young pianists sent to Poland for the competition. In 1993, Harold C Schonberg, the Pulitzer Prize winner and retired senior music critic of the New York Times (author of several books on great pianists and conductors notably the biography of Vladimir Horowitz) had this to say upon hearing Ms. Antonelli play at his home by special invitation:

"The talented Pina - Madonna face, ivory fingers, musical brain, has phenomenal technique, great freedom and personality in her style (but controlled) and represents the Golden Era of playing."

Rave responses, standing ovations and enthusiastic reviews have followed Ms. Antonelli's programs, (which typically have offered crowd-pleasing blockbusters) leaving her audiences enraptured.
